Howdy Manco!!

Gloria Winters began working in Hollywood as a child actor. Her first series was opposite William Bendix in The Life Of Riley which ran from 1949-1950, in which she was cast as his daughter, Babs. Her 2nd series was the one she would become most famous for. Her role of "Penny", the niece of Kirby Grant on the 1951-1954 series, Sky King. Gloria retired from acting after the series cancelled.

Ed Harris made his film debut in the t.v. series, Gibbsville in 1976. He would next appear in The Rockford Files and Delvecchio before making his big screen debut in the 1983 blockbuster film, The Right Stuff, as Astronaut John Glenn. This film launched (pardon the pun) Harris into the box office star he is today. With roles in To Kill A Priest, Places In The Heart, The Abyss, Absolute Power. Harris loves to play the protagonist, as in The Rock, State Of Grace and Enemy At The Gates. He seems quite capable of playing hero or villain with equal ease. Since the above films, he has starred in Buffalo Soldiers, A Beautiful Mind and another great film with Morgan Freeman, Gone, Baby Gone. He has appeared in a couple of westerns, a remake of Riders Of The Purple Sage and Appaloosa, which he also directed. Harris does westerns with the same talent he displays in any other genre and I wish he would do more of them. What more can I say?? One of the best actors in Hollywood and I look forward to watching him for many more years!!

Also today:

Gloria Grahame (1923-1981) came on the scene in the 1940s, one of her earliest films being It's A Wonderful Life. She played mostly in noir films, earning an Oscar nomination for Crossfire (1947), and winning Best Supporting Actress for The Bad And the Beautiful. She also appeared in In A Lonely Place and The Big Heat. Then she cast (or miscast) in the musical Oklahoma, and her career began to wane. She started doing theater in the mid to late 1950s, as well as various TV shows into the late 1970s. She appears with Chuck Connors in the 1966 film Ride Beyond Vengeance. She was married 4 times. Her second husband was director Nicholas Ray, and her last husband was her former step-son Anthony Ray! Suffering from stomach cancer, but refusing to admit it, she died at the age of 57.
