Howdy Manco!!

Lewis Stone had originally intended to be a writer, but after serving in the Spanish-American war and in WW I, his hair turned prematurely grey and after appearing in his first film in 1914, he was on his way. Stone appeared as both a leading man and a supporting actor in silent films for 15 years, until 1929 and when the talkies came along, he made the transition easily. Stone appeared in the 1921 film, Prisoner Of Zenda with Alice Terry and the 1928 film, Woman Of Affairs with Greta Garbo. He also appeared with Jean Harlow in Red Headed Woman. Lewis Stone appeared in over 200 films during his career and is listed in the Guiness book of records, for being the actor under contract for the longest period of time, to the same studio. He signed with M.G.M. in 1924 and remained with them until his death in 1953. During the 40's, Stone found his niche, as the father of Mickey Rooney ( Judge James Hardy), in over 15 of the Andy Hardy films. Stone died of a heart attack, in 1953, at the age of 73.
