Howdy Manco!!

Joe Flynn was a ventriloquist in the entertainment branch of the Army, during WW II. After the war, he began his film career in 1948 and appeared in several films, like The Indestructable Man, Steel Jungle and a few others, before getting roles in, Highway Patrol, Court Of Last Resort and the George Gobel Show. These led to the role that he will probably be best remembered for, that of Capt. Wallace.B.Bingamton, on the 1962-1666 t.v. series, McHale's Navy, with Ernest Borgnine. At 5 feet 6 inches and wearing horn rimmed glasses, he played Borgnine's taciturn but hilarious Captain. This role firmly established Flynn as a comedian in Hollywood and led to roles in several Disney films, Like The Love Bug, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and How To Frame A Figg. He also had a regular role on the Tim Conway Show. Flynn died in 1974, after suffering a heart attack, while swimming in his pool.
