Howdy Manco!!

Morris Ankrum was a lawyer and economics professor, before becoming an actor. He appeared in hundreds of westerns, like Colorado Territory, Hills Of Old Wyoming, playing badman, Indians and any role available in the 30's and 40's, under the name Stephen Morris. During the 50's, he became best known for his roles as a General, assisting the scientists in the ole sci-fi films, like Earth Versus The Flying Saucers and Invaders From Mars.
In the late 50's, 1957-1964, he took on the role of a judge in the Perry Mason t.v. series.

Tol Avery was another of the excellent character actors from the 50's. His career in film spanned 1950-1974 and most of it in t.v. He appeared in The Adventures Of Kit Carson, Shotgun Slade, Maverick, and many of the series popular during his career. He also was cast in Buchanan Rides Alone and All That Heaven Allows.

Simon Oakland was always one of my favorite character actors. Believe it or not, this famous "tough guy" actually began as a concert violinist. He first appeared in film in 1951 and by 1958, he was cast in Susan Hayward's, I want To Live. He continued to perform on t.v. in some westerns, like Laramie and Gunsmoke, while appearing in Bullitt, Psycho, Chato's Land, The Hunting Party, The Sand Pebbles and other good films. I will remember him best as Karl Kolchak's boss "Tony Vincenzo" on the 70's thiller, Night Stalker.

Nancy Kulp came to Hollywood in 1951, to work in film publicity, but after 3 weeks was offered her first acting job. Her career spanned 1951-1989 and included a role in Shane. She will be best remembered for her roles on The Bob Cummings Show and as .Miss Jane Hathaway on the long running t.v. series, The Beverly Hillbillies.

Ed, I'm surprised you didn't add something on Stanley Andrews. His first big role was Daddy Warbucks on radio's Little Orphan Annie. He appeared in over 250 movies and many TV shows, mostly as Army officers or sheriffs. He was cast in 1952 as the Old Ranger, host of Death Valley Days, and played the part until 1963, when the sponsor of the show replaced him with a much younger actor, Ronald Reagan.

Howdy Tinhorn!!

Pard, I can pull some of the info about these old stars from memory, but in order to do them even a little justice, each of them has to be researched. For 4, it normally takes about 1 & 1/2 hours of research and any more than 4 requires over 2 hours of research, including typeing. For 6 and 7 celebrity birthdays, it gets into 3 hours!!
