Howdy Manco!!

Walter Burke began his film career in 1948 and continued acting through 1980. With His small stature and his mischievous face, he was perfect as a leprechaun, which he played in several roles. He had roles in, The Stone Killer, Support Your Local Sheriff and All The Kings Men, but is probably best remembered for all his appearances on the t.v. series from the 50's -70's, including Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Peter Gunn, Bonanza and many many more. He is not to be confused with Shug Fisher, who he bears a strong resemblance to.

Michael Rennie was a British Actor, who first appeared in The Secret Agent in 1936, as a stand-in for Robert Young. He was a R.A.F. pilot during WW II and took his flight training in Dothan Alabama. When asked what he did for a living, he replied that he was a movie actor, which drew lots of laughs from his fellow fliers. Several nights later, while watching Ships With Wings. they were all surprised, when Rennie appeared on the screen. He appeared in many American t.v. series during the 50's-60's, including many westerns. At 6 feet, 4 inches, with his British accent, he had plum roles in several films of note, like The Robe, The Third Man etc, but will always be best remembered by the "baby boomers" as Klaatu in the 1950's sci-fi thriller, The Day The Earth Stood Still.

Van Johnson had just signed a 7 year contract with M.G.M. studios in 1942, when he was involved in an auto accident, that left him with a metal plate in his head, making him ineligible for service during WW II. Instead, he became a war film hero to millions of Americans with his appearances in Battleground, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and The Caine Mutiny. He was also well known for his roles in many musicals.

Tom Skerritt first appeared in War Hunt, but then spent the next 10 years appearing in t.v. series, like Laramie, Gunsmoke, Cimarron Strip, Wagon Train etc, before hitting it big in the sci-fi/horror film Alien. He has appeared in The Wild Rovers, Texas Rangers and a few other western films, but is probably best known for his appearances in Top Gun and M.A.S.H., and the t.v. series, Picket Fences.

Although not thought of as a western actor, John Savage has appeared in Bad Company and Cattle Annie And Little Britches. Beginning his film career in 1969, he has appeared in The Onion Field, The Deer Hunter, The Thin Red Line and as a priest in The Godfather III. With his boyish face, he has continued to snag roles of younger men.

Also today:

David Canary (1938-)

David Canary was in a few movies and TV shows, and David Dortort saw him in the film Hombre, and cast him as Ponderosa foreman Candy Canaday on Bonanza, a role would play from 1967 to 1970. He then went on to play Adam Chandler (and his twin brother Stuart) on the soap opera All My Children, for which he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy 11 times, and winning 5 times.
