Howdy Manco!!

Gene Roddenberry was a free lance writer, who wrote episodes for Highway Patrol and Have Gun Will Travel, until 1964, when he pitched a show about intergalactic travel aboard a futeristic spaceship to the networks. They shot 2 pilots and the network picked the show up as a regular and Roddenberry was on his way. Roddenberry was the producer and sometimes writer for the original Star Trek and after it was cancelled, the demand for the show by it's loyal fans eventually prompted the network to put it back on as, Star Trek, The Next Generation, along with 5 or 6 movies and the spinoff series, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. A little trivia about Roddenberry. He eventually married Majel Barrett, who is probably more familiar to fans as, Nurse Chapel on the original series.

L.Q. Jones made his film debut in the 1955 war film, Battle Cry and became indispensible to Hollywood for 50 years. He has played the sidekick to Clint Walker on Cheyenne and a bunkhouse cowboy on The Virginian. He knew both Elvis Presley and Sam Peckinpah and appeared with Elvis in Love Me Tender, Flaming Star and Stay Away Joe and in the films, The Wild Bunch, The Ballad Of Cable Hogue and Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid for Peckinpah. He has appeared on almost every t.v. western you've ever seen, including Gunsmoke, Laramie and too many more to name here.
Happy 85th Birthday, L.Q.

The 5 foot, 2 inch Debra Paget showed up in 1948 and retired in 1965, but in those 17 years, she put her mark on Hollywood, with films like Love Me Tender, Demetrius And The Gladiators, The Ten Commandments. Broken Arrow, White Feather, Seven Angry Men and The Last Hunt.
Rumor has it, that she married a Chinese multi millionaire. She occassionally shows up at Hollywood gatherings and they say she is still as beautiful as ever.

Gerald McRaney has starred in several t.v. series, like Major Dad, Undercovers, Fairly Legals and Jericho, but it is for the hit t.v. series, Simon And Simon, that he will probably be best remembered for.

Ed, the rumor about Debra Paget is true. She was married to Louis C. Kung, who was an oil industry executive and the nephew of Soon Mai-ling, the wife of Chaing Kai-shek, from 1964 to 1980. She was also briefly married to Bud Boetticher.

Another August 19 birthday babe: Jill St. John, who starred so unforgetably (well, to me at least) as fast-drawing teacher Rusty Hawkins in my imaginary early 60s Western series Schoolmarm.
