Howdy Manco!!

Jack Warner, along with his brother Sam, founded Warner Brothers Studios. After Sam's death, Jack became the president and headed up the studio from the 1950's-1970's. Reportedly, very hard to get along with, he nevertheless produced such films as Little Caesar, Sergeant York and The Charge Of The Light Brigade.. He also signed such stars as Errol Flynn, James Cagney and Bette Davis to Warner Bros. contracts. During the 50's, it was Jack, that promoted the idea of western t.v. series, like Maverick, Colt .45 and Cheyenne.

Gary Merrill began his career as the voice of Batman, on the Superman radio show, in the early 40's. Some of his first films were his best, such as All About Eve, Where The Sidewalk Ends and Twelve O'Clock High. He did manage to appear in a few westerns, like The Black Dakotas and Ride Beyond Vengeance. Merrill also guest starred in many of the t.v. series from the 50's-80's.

Nehemiah Persoff's career spanned 1943-1999. He is best known for the films, Some Like It Hot, An American Tail and Yentl. He has occassionally guest starred on several western series, like The Wild Wild West, Wagon Train and High Chaparral, but is not primarily thought of as a western actor. A bit of trivia about .Mr Persoff!! He was the obscure cab driver in the Marlon Brando" I coulda been a contender" scene, in On The Waterfront.

Howdy Tinhorn!!

Pard, I'm sure most folks remember Carroll O'Connor best for his role of Archie Bunker in the hit t.v. sitcom, All In The Family and his role of the Sheriff in another hit t.v. series, In The Heat Of The Night, but I always think of a little 1967 film, starring James Coburn, in which Carroll O'Connor played a greedy western Sheriff, titled Waterhole No. 3. It showcased O'Connor's talents as a crafty and rascally individual, trying to beat Coburn to the buried gold and probably helped him secure the role of Archie Bunker a few years later. Roger Miller sang the title song and as I recollect it went something like this.
It's the code of the west
You must do unto others,
Do unto others, before others
Do unto you.

I also liked the song James Coburn kept singing in the film, titled, Durango!! The lyrics went something like,
Oh, the girls in the west
Are the best, to rest with
Goin back, headin back
To Durango.
Where the sun goes down at noon.

Carroll O'Connor's son, played a Deputy, in the 2nd series, In The Heat Of The Night. O'Connor's son commited suicide during the series, because of drug addiction, as I recollect, and I always admired the way O'Connor castigated the, quote "lizard", unquote, that sold his son the drugs. The drug dealer actually had the gall to sue him for his remarks, but O'Connor won out in court!!
