Howdy Manco!!

In a career that spanned 35 years, Reed Hadley was a radio, t.v. and film star. He was the original voice of Red Ryder in the radio series. He appeared in many western films, such as Zorro's Fighting Legion, I Shot Jesse James, The Return Of Jesse James, The Man From Texas, along with many others. He also had 2 t.v. series. The first was Racket Squad 1950-1953 as Captain Braddock and Public Defenders 1954-1955 as Bart Matthews. He did his last acting in the film, Brain Of Blood in 1972.

John Pickard has long been one of my favorite western character actors. He could play good guy or villain equally well. primarily known for his western t.v. roles, he first appeared in the film, Mary Of Scotland in 1936. After serving in the military during WWII, his next role was in John Wayne's, Wake Of The Red Witch. Curious, that both Reed Hadley and John Pickard's birthdays are on the same day, as they were cast together in both of Hadley's series, Racket Squad and Public Defender, along with Kent Taylor in the great 50's t.v. series, Boston Blackie. Pickard would go on to play Captain Shank Adams in the western series, Boots And Saddles. He would appear in at least 2 more films with John Wayne, Chisum and True Grit. Pickard appeared in almost every western series ever on t.v., starting with The Cisco Kid,The Lone Ranger, Hopalong Cassidy, The Adventures Of Kit Carson, Rawhide, The Wild Wild West, Kung Fu, The Life And Legend Of Wyatt Earp and too many more to list here. A little trivia about John Pickard!! He auditioned for the part of Matt Dillon in the first year of Gunsmoke. According to Charles Marquis Warren, the producer of the first year of Gunsmoke, Pickard's screen tests were going well, until he floundered in a love scene with Kitty. If like me, you've watched just about every episode of this 20 year t.v. series, you'll have the same problem remembering any love scenes between Matt and Kitty as I do. So, because of a scene that never happened in the series, Pickard lost out on this opportunity. Pickards career lasted over 50 years and I must say, he was one of the best.

Although primarily known for her work in t.v.,June Lockhart made her film debut in the 1938 movie, A Christmas Carol. She would go on to appear in Sergeant York and She-wolf In London, before replacing Cloris Leachman as the mother, Ruth Martin, on the t.v. series Lassie. She also was a regular on the series, Petticoat Junction as .Dr Janet Craig and Maureen Robinson on Lost In Space and also a role on the daytime soap, General Hospital. Her career has spanned almost 70 years, from 1938-2007. A very beautiful and talented actress. I find it hard to believe that she is 87 years old today.
