Howdy Manco!!

In a career that spanned from the late 30's through 1995, Mary Wickes apppeared in over 50 films, including White Christmas, Cimarron, Destry and The Canterville Ghost. Sha also appeared as a regular on the t,v, series, Make Room For Daddy with Danny THomas and also a regular on the I Love Lucy Series. A tall gangling woman, she often played smart alec and wisecracking roles.

Ben Johnson was the real deal!!!!! He won the Team Roping Championship for the Professional Rodeo Association in 1953. He got his start by wrangling horses for Howard Hughes in the film Outlaw. He was next hired by John Ford as a wrangler in Fort Apache, but after seeing Johnson ride, Ford signed him to a 7 year contract at 5 thousand a week in 1948!!!!!
His first credited role was in The 3 Godfathers, then Rio Grande, Mighty Joe Young and the lead in Wagon Master. He appeared in Shane, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Cheyenne Autumn, and in several Sam Peckinpah films, like The Wild Bunch, The Getaway, Major Dundee. He also appeared as Melvin Purvis, G-Man, in Dillinger. A favorite of John Wayne, he went on to appear in many more Wayne films like Chisum and The Train Robbers. He alo appeared in 26 episodes of the t.v. series, The Monroes. In 1971, Johnson finally won the coveted Academy Award for his role in The Last Picture Show. As I recall, he remarked" it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy".
One of the best of the best!!

I remember the first time I saw She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, and I just liked Ben Johnson's easy going style. He doesn't say too much, but he has some of the best lines in the movie, my favorite being "I don't chaw and I don't play cards." But what really impressed me was the horsemanship. Man, could he ride! I think one of the best scenes he did was in Bite The Bullet, as the Old Man, telling Gene Hackman about all the things he'd done in his life but yet no-one ever heard of him, and right after that monologue, the Old Man dies. That's a really moving scene.
