Wow. Brandon De Wilde died young, from injuries he sustained in a traffic accident. I've only seen him in 3 movies: Shane, All Fall Down (with Warren Beatty and Eva Marie Saint), and In Harm's Way as John Wayne's son.

Howdy Pards!!

I'm sure everyone who knows anything about westerns, knows who Ward Bond was. He starred in over 200 films during his career, including My Darling Clementine, Fort Apache, The Big Trail, The Searchers, Drums Along The Mohawk and Wagon Master, the film that he would eventually play out on t.v. for 3 years on the series Wagon Train. A friend of John Wayne AND John Ford, he was also a member of the John Ford stock actors. Believe it or not, the Duke actually SHOT Ward Bond with a shotgun, while on a hunting trip!!

Jim Bannon was a western actor on BOTH radio and film. He will be best remembered as being the 4th actor to play Red Ryder 1949-1950. He also appeared in several t.v. series, like McKenzie's Raiders and Wanted, Dead Or Alive.

Brad Dexter was another of the excellent supporting actors in Hollywood during the 50's and 60's. He appeared in Asphalt Jungle, Von Ryan's Express and None But The Brave. He also holds sort of an unofficial record. If you ask most western fans to name the stars of The Magnificent Seven, he is the star that most fans can never remember his name!!

Michael Learned has had a couple of t.v.series, like Nurse, All My Children, but it is the t.v. series, The Waltons and the role of Olivia Walton, that she will always be identified with. As I recollect, after Amanda Blake left the series Gunsmoke after 19 years, it was Michael Learned that Matt Dillon finally fell in love with!!

Dennis Quaid is the brother of Randy Quaid, another actor whose work we're all familiar with. Dennis has appeared in such films as The Right Stuff, Switchback and the remake of The Flight Of The Phoenix. He has also appeared in a couple of good westerns, such as The Long Riders with His brother and as Doc Holliday in Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp. When I think of Dennis, I always think of a little comedy film he made with Ringo Starr titled Caveman. He was a member of Ringo's tribe, that was frozen in the ice cave, while he was urinating.

I love the movie Caveman!

One of my favorite scenes with Ward Bond is in The Searchers. After the fight between Martin (Jeffrey Hunter)and Charlie McCory (Ken Curtis), Rev. Clayton says "Well, it was a nice wedding, Mrs. Jorgensen, even if nobody got married." Mrs. Jorgensen (Olive Carey) swats him on the rump, and Rev. Clayton whinnies! I don't know if that was scripted, or ad libbed, but it's a funny bit from Ward Bond!

Jim Bannon also starred in the Adventures of Champion tv series, and acted in shows like Range Rider and usually as the bad guy. A memorable role was as Glenn Ford's hired gunman sheriff in The Man from Colorado.
