Will Wright was one of those guys that always played a mayor, a judge, or a newspaper guy.

I've seen Emilio Fernandez in The Appaloosa and The Wild Bunch.

Sterling Hayden was good in Johnny Guitar, The Godfather, Suddenly, and Dr. Stranglelove.

Strother Martin invented the sniveling bad guy.

Of course, We all know Leonard Nimoy as Star Trek's Spock, but I saw a good episode of The Virginian where he and Michael Ansara played a couple of town tamers.

James Caan's best role was Sonny Corleone in The Godfather, but I liked him as Mississippi in El Dorado, too.

And no matter how old he gets, Johnny Crawford will always be Lucas McCain's son Mark.

A lot of birthdays today!
Happy Birthday to you all!

I just saw"James Caan" a couple of weeks ago in " Journey to Shiloh" 1968.Thanks to a friend for sending this to me. A real good movie.
At the beginning of the Civil War, seven friends embark on a cross-country journey in order to join the Confederate army.
Seven left but only one came back.

Tinhorn, your so right what you said. No matter how old he gets, Johnny Crawford will always be Lucas McCain's son Mark. What a sweet young person in Rifleman and so cute too.

Leonard Nimoy will alway be "Spock" to me in Star Trek. I always loved those shows.

Now what would Westerns be like without those baddies like Strother Martin. You see him in lots of our great westerns. I can hear him laugh right now, can you! Ha!

Howdy Tinhorn!!

Pard, ya left out Luke Askew. One of the baddest of the bad. He appeared in Green Berets with the Duke, Easy Rider with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid with James Coburn and Kris Kristofferson, but his most memorable role for me, was in The Culpepper Cattle Company with Billy Greenbush and Gary Grimes!! He turns 80 years old today!!

Seems strange that Luke Askew turned 80 today. Jim and I spent a day with he and his wife some years ago and I knew he was a few years older than I, but 80. Wow. Then I remembered I'll be turning 70 late this year, so, yep, guess that is right. Culpepper Cattle Company always comes to mind, but he was in Cool Hand Luke too. One of his real early ones. He told us an interesting story about working in Green Berets...got kind of physically messed up in that early role. Other westerns also included The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (as one of the Younger brothers), Will Penny, Frank and Jesse, Posse, The Magnificent Seven Ride, and he starred in a spagetti western (forget the name), and a lot of non westerns in which he had good parts. On TV he appeared in episodes of shows like High Chapparal, How the West was Won & Bonanza.

Ed, I didn't forget Luke Askew. It's just that I've seen his name in several movies, but never could place the face. But since you mention The Green Berets, I now remember him as Sgt. Provo, the guy that had the latrine named for him: Provo's Privy. "It sings!"

On a side note about The Green Berets: The last guy to speak in the demonstration for the reporters at the beginning of the movie was my senior drill sergeant at Fort Bliss in 1984.
