Howdy Pards!!

The only film I remember Barton Heyman from is, Valdez Is Coming, with Burt Lancaster. Heyman played El Segundo to the ranch owner with Susan Clark as the female lead.

Ernest Borgnine is the total actor. From his Oscar winning role as Marty in 1955, to his t.v. series, McHales Navy, through Bad Day At Black Rock, The Wild Bunch, Escape From New York and still acting today, we have been priviliged to watch and admire this man's talents for over 55 years!! Ernest is 95 years young today. What an actor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ed, you're right about Ernie Borgnine. You can't forget him with Alan Ladd and Katy Jurado in The Badlanders, or as a general in The Dirty Dozen, or as one of the 3 outlaws in Hanny Caulder. Such a great actor. I saw an interview with him a couple years ago, and he was just so thankful for his gift, and opportunity to entertain people for so many years. Truly one of a kind.

I went to a book singing in Pasadena, CA a few years ago when Ernie had just released his auto-biography. I waited in a long line and when I got to the table Ernie was sitting there alone signing the books. No agent no helper. The man looked 75 not 90+. We talked about the Wild Bunch for a moment and he was very friendly then I had my picture taken with him. Truly one of the great actors of our time and it was like talking to a neighbor. I'm proud to say that most western actors are much like Ernie to their fans.

What can I say...Ernest Borgnine is one very fine actor and human being. It was his mom that suggested to him to become an actor after he was discharged from the service after WWII. He wasn't sure on what he wanted to do and his mom said to him that he always enjoyed entertaining people since he was a kid and that he should give acting a try, so with the G.I. Bill in hand he went off to study this craft and has been entertaining folks to this very day. Moral to the story, always listen to your mom. Johnny Guitar, Vera Cruz & Bad Day at Black Rock are way up on my favorites list. Happy birthday, Ernie...may you make it to 100 and beyond and still be doing your thing on the celluloid dreamboat.
